The Venus Company raises the bar by pairing with ethical drinks providers.

Passionate and committed to supporting local food and drink suppliers in the South West, each year we spend c.£500,000 on local goods and services with over 30 producers and suppliers from Devon and Cornwall alone.  Proud of our purchasing policy to buy local, healthy, and tasty produce, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do, and investing in the local and regional economy through enterprise and innovation ensures we keep true to our values. With this in mind, we love working with like-minded independent, ethical suppliers who match our sustainability ethos and values to work in the greenest way possible.

‘Schools out for summer’ and with three Venus beach cafes set in stunning locations across glorious South Devon boasting beautiful coastlines, it’s the perfect day out. for families.  Offering an extensive all-day menu of tasty and wholesome homemade dishes lovingly prepared in our Venus kitchens, as well as hot and cold drinks, and a wide range of sweet treats, we cover all dietary requirements.  Open daily for breakfast lunch or an early supper until the end of the holidays with plenty of seating inside and out, we guarantee you will enjoy a great day out!

Don’t miss the chance to try our famous fish ‘n’ fries or our unique Venus steak pasty made with local steak and crammed full of juicy veg, washed down with a refreshing range of beers or larger from our local supplier independent Bays Brewery. Established in 2007 by brothers Mark & Peter Salmon and their brother-in-law Will Freeland, Bays Brewery is a family-run brewery that has been creating exceptional, multi-award-winning craft beers in the beautiful coastal resort of Torbay for over 15 years.  Crafted to perfection the Devon way, brewed with an environmentally friendly ethos that matches Venus’ values, Bays is committed to reducing its carbon footprint, with its rooftop solar panels, helping power the brewing process.  They even pass on the spent grains to local farmers to feed their cattle.

If you prefer a delicious wine with your meal, then we have it canned – saving 70% CO2 over bottled wine per litre. For white wine, we recommend mouthwatering vibrant, and zesty Gruner Veltliner Austria.  This cheeky wine brings a refreshing brightness to the palate and pairs perfectly with our morish pea and mint Arancini. The silver and gold medal winner Grenache French Rosé is fresh and fruity, boasting aromatics of fresh summer berries, with a nice balance of watermelon and berry notes, citrus, and crisp refreshing acidity.  It goes brilliantly with our Prawn Marie Rose wrap rammed with succulent and plump king prawns, made with a classic sauce and a hint of spice, lettuce, and a garlic mayo slaw. For those who prefer a heartier meal, we recommend our tempting pasta dish with Venus Pomodoro sauce, which goes well with the smooth, silky, and beautifully balanced Old Vine Garnacha Spanish Red 2019.  A gold medal winner at London Wine Competition in 2021, the judges applauded the award-winning wine as: “Ripe dark fruit, baked plums, earth, spices, minerals: intense, concentrated, and powerful. Good balance of ripe fruit and a bright finish.”

We’ve teamed up with Simon and Lisa of Canned Wine Co. who started their business in 2019 and who now supply all our wines served in 187 or 250 ml cans.  The couple attended a festival a few years ago and found lots of average-tasting wines were being poured from heavy glass bottles into single-use plastic cups and they decided enough was enough! Today the successful, dynamic duo is all about making award-winning, relatively unknown high-quality wines in the most sustainable way, working with brilliant winemakers to deliver their wine in small perfectly portioned cans.

The Canned Wine Co. team is passionate about working with some of Europe’s finest winemakers who make it their job to ensure they protect that quality right through the canning process. They do this by importing the wines in bulk, helping lower emissions and the CO2 impact of heavy-weight glass logistics. Once it’s in the can, it’s airtight, so it isn’t going to get any better – that’s why they do all the work to get the wine to its best drinking moment first. This means when you pop the seal, you’ll experience the wine in the best light it can be, and less waste.

We look forward to welcoming you to our Venus Cafes in Broadsands, Bigbury-on-Sea, and East Portlemouth.

Cheers from the Venus Team
