Food Drink Devon’s ‘Sustainability Hero of the month’ is Devon Sea Salt!

We asked Chris Hambley, owner of Devon Sea Salt, about the process he has taken to become a sustainable producer…

What have you done to make your business more environmentally friendly?

We have adapted our process to be able to eliminate all power use in our production tunnels – We now have no need of fuel or electricity to produce our raw sea salt.

We have a plastic free guarantee for all our packaging and postal services, and everything we use is recyclable, reusable or biodegradable.

What would you like to change in the future to improve your sustainability credentials further?

It is hard to find other ways to reduce our carbon footprint much more but we are always looking for ways to do so. One thing we are looking into is reducing vehicle use for our water collection activities.

What tips do you have for other businesses that would like to become more sustainable?

Breakdown your business in to sections / activities and tackle each part separately.

About Devon Sea Salt

Devon Sea Salt is a new venture producing the only sea salt in Devon and what they believe to be the only natural sea salt produced in England.

Their process uses traditional techniques with a hint of modern, and it is this approach which gives their salt its character, appearance and punchy taste. Natural sea salt production is a slow process that cannot be rushed and therefore the salt crystals can only be harvested when they are ready.
