Bayards Kitchen is delighted to announce that Poppy Paulton has returned as general manager. Poppy left the popular cafe at The Cider Press Centre, Dartington, two years ago to start a family with her husband Nathan. Their son Jaxson is now one, and with Poppy’s mum living close by in Totnes to oversee babysitting duties, Poppy felt the time was right to return to work.

“It all just fell into place really as the job was advertised, I spoke to owners Charlie and Zuzana Deuchar, and I’m back,” she said.

Poppy ran Bayards Kitchen for three years, having worked at the Deuchar’s other business Bayards Cove Inn Dartmouth for five years prior to that.

“It’s really great to be back as we still have the same core team – Martin Reynolds as head chef, and Asha as sous chef. Charlie and Zuzana are brilliant too and it means we’re back in a really great position to drive recruitment and get a brilliant team working with us. We’re a little short staffed at the moment, but we’re hopeful that school leavers and students will want to come and work with us in a great atmosphere, because we do like to make it fun here! It’s also great for part time mums, or anyone wanting a job that’s very rewarding.

“Also with Charlie and Zuzana’s other business interests, there’s scope to learn so much more about the hospitality industry other than just working here at Bayards Kitchen.”

Motherhood for Poppy has, so far, proved incredibly rewarding with Jaxson an easy  baby with a brilliant sense of humour.

Regular visitors to Bayards Kitchen will also be familiar with Poppy’s gorgeous Dachsund Frank who has bonded in the cutest way with Jaxon. “They are brilliant together and it’s so lovely to see them playing all the time,” said Poppy.

Since Poppy left Bayards Kitchen, The Cider Press Centre has undergone a huge transformation, changing its name from The Shops at Dartington, and undergoing various changes to transform it into a wonderful place to spend a relaxing few hours.

“It’s really very smart here now,” said Poppy. “It’s such a lovely place to be, with lots of lovely shops, and soon we’ll be able to reopen The Pasty Shack for takeaway food which has been hugely popular. We’re just waiting on getting the right staff here to join the great team already at The Shops at Dartington.”

If you’d like to join Poppy and her team, please email bayardskitchen@bayardsltd.co.uk.
