Hello June! Dartmouth is really busy this week, and no doubt will be all month. Let’s hope we have continuing dry weather for us all to enjoy.

It is National Gin Day on the 12th June and here at the Angel Taste of Devon Restaurant we have two Angel Gins available to buy and enjoy at home, or you can of course enjoy them as an aperitif in our restaurant located right on the embankment in picturesque Dartmouth.

The Angel Gin was specially created in collaboration with Conker Spirits and our Head Chef Elly Wentworth using Devonshire black garlic, the gin has a rich umami backdrop mellowed by a hint of honey and piney juniper with a light floral lift. Garnished with lemon peel it is not just a great aperitif, it is also an excellent pairing with cheese.

The ingredients and botanicals were chosen by Elly and blended by Dave Hall, Conker’s Head of Innovation.

This isn’t the first time Elly has worked with Dave. He produced an outstanding orange based ‘Old Tom’ style gin for Elly to use for her Dartmouth Side Car pre dessert as seen recently on TV – the Angel Orange and Neroli Gin.

This is a very different style gin, and was very popular in 18th century England. Sweeter than a London dry gin, but drier than the Dutch Jenever, our ‘Old Tom’ has big juicy orangey notes to back up the juniper and spice. Finished with Neroli for a floral, citrusy flavour with just a hint of bitterness to balance the sweetness. Absolutely delicious!

Conker Spirit were the first to have a gin distillery in Dorset, and was founded by Chartered Quantity Surveyor, Rupert Holloway, and is a truly entrepreneurial story! After working in the surveying industry for 7 years, Rupert decided he would take a leap of faith, and leave his job, sell his car and start of his journey of producing (all in house) award winning gin. The rest is history!

We are delighted to have worked with Conker, and are offering a special 10% discount for National Gin Day only, head to our website here to find out more!
