Platform 1, the only truly waterside restaurant in Dartmouth, has transformed into Embankment Bistro. With Elly Wentworth at the helm it opened its doors on the 1st April 2023.

You can expect spectacular alfresco dining on ‘La Terrace’ partnering with Bollinger Champagne house.

The new senior team at The Holland Group in Dartmouth have moved fast to create a new concept for their prominent waterside restaurant and former GWR railway ticket office which is currently operating as Platform 1.

The food is being overseen by Great British Menu finalist and Group Executive Chef Elly Wentworth. Together with the new Embankment team she will be serving up some classic bistro dishes with menus designed to attract both as a destination venue, and a convenient choice for those enjoying the stunning Dartmouth embankment. Expect outstanding estuary views in a comfortable, casual environment with an all-new interior design.

As a French classically trained chef, Elly loves Dartmouth and is excited to produce something slightly different from her famous tasting menus at The Angel, Taste of Devon.

This exciting project lets me create wholesome classic bistro dishes. Dishes I’d happily cook at home as I just love to eat them myself. It’s a classically trained chefs dream to be able to cook in this style for our regular customers. Where I think of  The Angel as ‘Art’, Embankment Bistro to me is ‘Artisan’; classic dishes with simple but fantastic produce crafted for a bigger audience.

The Embankment is uniquely positioned in town, and is the only restaurant that is directly on the waterfront, with an alfresco terrace that attracts the sun all day where you can enjoy breakfast, a light lunch, or a hearty dinner.

The all-day dining bistro is a perfect destination whether with friends or family –  and your four legged friends are very welcome. The bar is open for drinks which can be enjoyed with some carefully chosen charcuterie and hot snacks.

The new look takeaway is offering a great range of food if you fancy something quick but tasty, with salads, paninis, traditional pasties and more, as well as locally produced Granny Gothards ice cream and hand-roasted beans from Devon Coffee.

Think dishes such as Croque Monsieur, or a classic French Onion Soup. There will be mouth-watering choices available from the grill, fresh Catch of The Day, and a fantastic choice of main courses such as Confit Duck Leg served with chicory or Glazed Beef Cheek with horseradish and chive.

Csaba Adamy, Group Operations Manager, who had previously been with Mitch Tonks at the Sea Horse, will be overseeing the venue with exciting partnerships with St Austell breweries who are heavily developing their wine involvement and Bollinger Champagne house. Great local beers alongside superb table wine and classic Champagnes will all be ‘on tap’!
