The Angel Taste of Devon restaurant in Dartmouth is passionate about using local produce wherever we can, but we are also just as passionate about using produce from across the UK, and in particular having English Wines on our wine list to broaden our diner’s choice.

Not only are we super blessed to have Sharpham vineyard on our doorstep, the UK really does have some fantastic established and emerging wine growers and producers and we will be delighted to celebrate this fast-growing movement during English Wine Week from the 19th – 27th June.

The week is designed to provide the perfect opportunity for producers to encourage more people to visit their vineyards that are open to the public, and there really are some fantastic locations that are open for tasting and tours around the country.

We have many English wines available, but the Angel top recommends from restaurant manager Jordan Wiltshire are:

‘Sharpham Pinot Noir – perfect with Elly’s Beetroot Tart or mushroom ravioli (and superb with lamb)’

Sharpham Vineyard is spectacularly positioned on the River Dart and has been producing top quality wines since 1981. They are open for self-guided as well as guided vineyard walks, wine and cheese tasting. Their wines are stylish and offer intense fruit flavours and aromas, which are made from carefully selected grape varieties grown on the sheltered slopes overlooking the river. Traditional and new world techniques are employed resulting in a range of distinctive and carefully balanced wines. www.sharpham.com

‘Stopham Estate Pinot Blanc – pairs excellently with our Roast Diver Scallops or any seafood or fish with a cream-based sauce.’

Stopham Estate is in an area of outstanding natural beauty in West Sussex and forms part of the South Downs National Park. They offer vineyard, winery and wine tasting tours with the winemaker on the majority of Saturdays at 11am or 2pm between April and October 2021. www.stophamvineyard.co.uk

‘Nyetimber Sparkling Rose – just gorgeous as an aperitif or with our Dulce Cured Salmon.’

All of the wines at Nyetimber are crafted according to the traditional method, ageing them for extended periods of time to build complexity and flavour, and allowing for generous post-disgorgement time before release. They host many events throughout the year and are based in West Chiltingdon, West Sussex. www.nyetimber.com

You can enjoy all of these fine English wines whilst dining with us. But if you cannot get in to see us, why not visit the vineyards?

Happy English Wine tasting!
