Big Win by Dartmouth Restaurant in the South West Tourism Awards
We are delighted to announce that The Angel Taste of Devon has won Silver in Best Restaurant in the South West Tourism Awards 2020. The event was hosted yesterday via Zoom with all finalists joining in throughout the day to hear the awards announced by a representative of this year’s sponsor, South West Water. The Angel was one of the four finalists in the restaurant category, along with Al Molo and Moose Kitchen in Dorset and Cove24 Restaurant and Bar in Cornwall, following their win of Gold in the Devon Tourism Awards in late March this year.
This was one of longest awards seasons ever with 75 Finalists and 33 Commended having been named in this year’s regional Tourism Awards which saw 416 entries from across Devon, Cornwall, the Isles of Scilly, Bath, Bristol, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire. Due to the pandemic, the awards were judged differently this year: applications were welcomed prior to the first lockdown in 2020 but then many adaptions and changes had to be made. The judging took into account the business entries, digital presence and feedback along with evidence of Covid-secure measures, with judges poring over entry forms, websites, social media and review sites prior to decisions taken by an independent panel.
Our Head Chef Elly, who accepted the award for the restaurant, had this to say:
“We are so pleased to win this award and be up against other great restaurants. This award shows everyone how hard our small team has worked in 2020 during the limited times we have been able to open. We can’t wait to re-open again to welcome back our guests”
The Angel Taste of Devon is a 35 cover restaurant overlooking the river Dart in Dartmouth, Devon. Elly Wentworth, former Masterchef The Professionals Masterchef, has been Head Chef since September 2018 and is continuing the legacy of Joyce Molyneux who was head chef until 1999 when the restaurant was known as the Carved Angel. The Angel will re-open on Wednesday 19th May 2021 as long as government restrictions are allowing.
