If you have ever been to one of Elly’s Guest Chef Nights, you will know they are not just a celebration of fine dining; they are a unique opportunity to experience different styles of cuisine.
The Angel has several special nights coming up, but here are the details of the first two:
4 March – not just 2, but 3 chefs in one night!
Elly will be joined by Chris Eden of Gidleigh Park in Chagford and Jeffery Robinson from the New Yard Restaurant in Helston.
Chris Eden joined Gidleigh Park in September 2019, arriving from Driftwood in Cornwall after 12 illustrious years as Head Chef. Chris was awarded a Michelin star in 2012, becoming the first Cornish born chef to hold a star in their home county. Retaining the star ever since, Chris was additionally awarded a fourth AA rosette in 2018, becoming just one of four chefs in Cornwall to hold this accolade.
Bringing his produce-led ethos to the kitchens of Gidleigh Park, Chris’ style is beautifully laced with touches of adventure and invention, creating refined plates where the flavour is king.
Undeniably refined with an exacting technique, Chris is also renowned for his honest, unfussy approach to cooking. His menus are contemporary with a nod to tradition, supporting local Devonshire farmers and producers to ensure that only the finest quality ingredients make it onto the plate.
Chris will be joined by Jeffrey Robinson, co-owner and executive chef of The New Yard Restaurant and The Pantry on the Lizard Peninsula in South West Cornwall. The restaurant, pantry, garden and shop are situated in the historic stable yard at Trelowarren in Cornwall, a private estate that has been owned by the same family for over 600 years.
The New Yard is one of the first restaurants in the UK to be awarded a green Michelin Star for gastronomy and sustainability practices. Serving his take on Modern Cornish cuisine, Jeffery uses ingredients grown on his own farm which are created using a philosophy of permaculture. Jeffery and The New Yard have been voted one of the most exciting and innovative restaurants in the UK today.
You will enjoy a six-course Special Guest Chef Taster Menu, 2 courses from each chef, for just £115 per person. 20 April – John Hooker joins Elly
Elly loves the Cornish Arms and was determined to ensure John visited the Angel as one of her special Guest Chefs.
In May 2013, John and his wife Emma embarked on a new venture to operate their own pub in their home town of Tavistock, The Cornish Arms. The Cornish is an unpretentious, relaxed pub serving outstanding quality food and drink for all to enjoy.
John’s focus is to serve flavour driven dishes with little fuss, classic combinations that are sourced using the best quality produce the British Isles have to offer.
This has been the driving force of The Cornish having held a Michelin Bib Gourmand for the last 7 years and also being included in the Top 50 Gastropubs every year for the past 9.
“I truly feel excited and privileged to be able to bring a taste of The Cornish to the New Angel. I have known Elly for a very long time and have seen the journey she has been on to learn her craft, grafting away in some of the UK’s most prestigious kitchens to become the chef she is today. Elly has gone on to elevate her reputation and the reputation of this famous restaurant right here in sunny Devon.
