An all-new Tiverton Farmers Market will be launched in November, showcasing some of the best local food, drink, producers and makers.

A host of new traders have signed up for the farmers market, which will take place at Tiverton Pannier Market on the first Saturday of every month (9am to 2pm).

The monthly showpiece event will focus on local, quality, fresh, sustainable produce, with food and drink stalls dominating the historic building.

Alana’s Cakes, Andrew King Chocolates, Appledore Wick, Chubby Bunny Marshmallows, E18hteen Gin, Emma’s Bread, Exe Valley Brewery, Exmoor Distillery, Exmoor Fudge Kitchen, Immix Artisan Coffee Roasters, Little Oak Farm, Many Hands Brew Co, Pale Farm Turkeys, Redwoods Farm, Rull Orchard, Stanbury Wild Game Pies and Westcott Boer Goats are among the businesses to book regularly or for the launch event on Saturday 6 November.

They will join existing food and drink traders at the market, including Fair and Ethical, Garfield’s Life is Sweet, Hillside Farm, Kellands Fruit and Veg, The Healthy Root and Totally Sweet.

There are also set to be dedicated areas to showcase local makers, with other traders, street food, live music from In Harmony and Castletown, Shetland ponies and extras thrown in to make it a great day out for people of all ages.

The launch is months in the making and the hope is to capitalise on the huge success of the recent eat:Festival and Market Fest double-header and local people’s appetite for such events.

Those events attracted thousands of visitors, with 70 food and drink stalls in the town centre and the market hosting over 40 local artists, crafters and traders and four hours of live music.

Jim Bray, market manager, said: “A quality monthly farmers market will be a fantastic addition to Tiverton and the town centre, building on the success of recent events.

“Tiverton has a rich history of markets selling local meat and produce, stretching back over hundreds of years, and it will be great to revive the tradition in an all-new format.

“There are so many amazing producers and makers in and around Mid Devon and it will be terrific to bring them together on a regular basis to showcase their produce and work.

“The response from local businesses has been very encouraging, with lots of confirmed traders covering a variety of produce, including meat, game, fruit and veg, bread, cheese, pies, pasties, eggs, cakes, chocolate, fudge, jams, honey, beer, cider, spirits, fruit juices, coffee and more.

“As well as a wide range of stalls to cover all tastes, we’re planning to enhance the experience of visitors by adding street food, live music, family entertainment and other attractions.

“We will also look to add themes to bolster the offering, including a Christmas special in December and a garden event in the spring.

“It will be an excellent opportunity for residents and visitors of all ages to come together, buy local, support fantastic small businesses and have a fun day out.”

The market is offering affordable fees and incentives for businesses to join and continue trading long-term, including a referral scheme.
