Tavistock-based Flapjackery is backing the campaign to urgently help Ukrainians fleeing the war.

It has created two special flapjacks – half pieces of ‘millionaire’ flapjack – that have been topped with yellow and blue chocolate and packaged together to create the Ukranian flag.

Every single penny from each flapjack sold – £4.20 – will be donated to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Ukrainian Humanitarian Appeal.

The flapjacks can be bought at Flapjackery’s shops at Tavistock, Minehead and Wells with a limited number of 300 available.

Flapjackery is owned by business partners Carol Myott and Sally Jenkin who said: “It beggars belief the horrors that the people in Ukraine are experiencing. We just cannot imagine the absolute terror they are facing, and not only that, they are having to leave everything they know behind for such an uncertain future. This is just a little something that Flapjackery can do to help with the fund-raising.”

Headquartered in Tavistock, Flapjackery currently employs a staff of 22, with large expansion plans in process, which will double the size of the business. Three further shops are set to open this year, its trade stand attends the major shows and events up and down the country, and it has a thriving online business.

Sally said: “Flapjacks are incredibly popular, and its wonderful that in just seven years we’ve been able to grow the business to such an extent, having started baking in our kitchens. But all this pales into insignificance, when you consider what is happening on the continent, and all our thoughts and prayers go to those who are suffering so much at this very moment.”

Donations will go to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Ukrainian Humanitarian Appeal, which is bringing together 13 leading UK aid charities, including the Red Cross, Save the Children and ActionAid UK. Every £ donated from March 3rd is match-funded by the UK Government up to £20 million. The DEC will ensure the money is quickly and efficiently disseminated to help people displaced from their homes in Ukraine or fleeing across the border.
