Devon Cookery School’s Student Survival Course – Part 1

An introduction to cooking for Students and Teens ages 16+

Student Survival Day 1

Any students booked on to both days will receive a chef knife and apron upon completion. The stereotypical picture of a student living off frozen pizzas, microwave meals, supermarket meal deals, and takeaways are surely a thing of the past in light of the food savvy times we live in. However, if you do not give your young teens the knowledge and inspiration then that is EXACTLY what they will do. Another massive part of student living is lack of space and also an extensive amount of food waste which in turn is money wasted!

These student courses are designed to teach students (and anybody else for that matter) how to shop on a budget, get the most from what you buy, reduce food waste and have delicious food to impress the new friends and dorm mates!

Day 1 of this course concentrates on Knife skills, cooking basics such as rice, pasta, eggs etc. DCS will also go through food hygiene, and also the essential equipment needed in the kitchen.

What they will learn:

• How to cook and keep rice safely
• How to roast a chicken and portion for the week (They will make a curry from this for lunch)
• How to make a Tomato Sauce
• How to use up leftover veg
• How to cook eggs 3 ways And much more!

• How to use a knife safely
• Knife Skills
• Food hygiene
• How to cook and keep rice
• How to use leftover veg
• How to cook eggs
• How to make a simple tomato sauce

What they will take home:

• Tomato Sauce
• Curry Sauce

Everything that they prepare will be either eaten for lunch or will be taken home, so DCS recommend that you bring a cool bag if you are travelling far. They will be provided with eco friendly takeaway containers to pack their items into should they have any to take home.
