Rare & Pasture, Ugborough, are recruiting for three roles including Production Assistant, Packing Assistant and cleaning role.


Production Assistant

Job Overview

Production Assistants help in curing and preserving of meat products and hot smoked sausages. You will be responsible for assisting with the day to day operation of the production and packing schedules and will be responsible to the Production Manager. 

Production Assistants train in all aspects of charcuterie production, including packing/finishing.  It’s essential to develop a good eye for quality, and to display care and diligence in their work. 

Prime Responsibilities:

  • To help produce charcuterie and hot smoked meat products.
  • Liaise with production and sales staff to ensure sufficient but not excessive stock of all products is maintained, and rotate stock in date order
  • Ensure that specifications and recipes required to make charcuterie are accurately and carefully adhered to.
  • Assess products for quality criteria
  • Record all processes on computerised stock management/HACCP system
  • Comply with the company’s HACCP procedures as specified in the Operations Manual.

Desirable attributes

To be willing to learn and work autonomously under your own initiative. 

As this is a small business in which the contribution of every member of staff is valued and necessary, the Production Assistant will be involved in all aspects of the business such as packing, cleaning, and organisational development.

Packing Assistant

Job Overview

The primary responsibilities of this post are to assist in ensuring that their high standards in products and premises are maintained (quality and hygiene), orders are packed and despatched to customer satisfaction, products are stored correctly, and computerised records are maintained of each process stage. You are part of a small team, so working well with your colleagues, with initiative and efficiency, is also key to the role.

Prime Responsibilities:

  • Pack, label and store products in line with food safety procedures to maximise shelf life and product quality
  • Liaise with production and sales staff to ensure sufficient but not excessive stock of all products is maintained, and rotate stock in date order
  • Maintain upkeep of the department, including stocks of consumables, e.g. packaging, and liaise with managers about purchasing new or replacement items
  • Assess products for quality criteria
  • Record all processes on computerised stock management/HACCP system
  • Comply with the company’s HACCP procedures as specified in the Operations Manual.

Cleaning role

Job Overview

Part time CO’s help with the routine and scheduled cleaning of machinery, equipment, utensils. You will be responsible for carrying out the day to day cleaning and will be responsible to the Production Manager and the Senior Technical Officer.

CO’s train in all aspects of cleaning and will need to develop a good eye for quality, displaying care and diligence in their work. You will also need to be willing to learn and work autonomously under your own initiative.

Prime Responsibilities include:

  • Cleaning of machinery and the production unit
  • Record and validate the cleaning process

Desirable attributes

  • Food Hygiene Certificate level 2 (manufacturing or catering) 
  • The ability to plan and organise your workload
  • The ability to work well with and learn from others 
  • Dexterity and an eye for detail
  • The ability to work efficiently and in a well-organised manner
