SO what is sustainability?

“Avoidance of the depletion of natural resources in order to maintain an ecological balance” or is it to “sustain what we have and to use everything without waste to create a sustainable environment?”

Either way we have a great belief that we should use what we have and grow, and never to waste. There is way too much of this happening these days. We create more and more food and grow more and more vegetables and fruit just to watch it been wasted.

Households cause 70% of the UK’s food waste, throwing away 6.6 million tonnes of food, of which 4.5 million tonnes are edible. 7 Oct 2022.”

Here at Blagdon Wharf Barn Farm we make it our mission to not waste at all. With our fruit and vegetables going straight into our preserves when there is too much on the farm. We use the edible scapings to feed our animals to ensure they get the nutrition and vitamins required. We use any other left overs in our compost or as fuel.

Don’t get me wrong we are not perfect, but I would say education is the forefront of any sustainability, so why not help people understand that we don’t always have to throw away, we can always use what we have, JUST RESEARCH AND EXPLORE.

We are always open to questions and helping out, so why not reach out and let us know how we can help or how you can help save our environment and use everything you buy and not waste.
