Go Green With Your Spring Clean, with Bovey Larder Zero Waste and Refill Shop in Bovey Tracey

6 Reasons to go green with your spring clean

Rebecca and Corin Burton at Bovey Larder zero-waste shop, in Bovey Tracey, are on a mission to encourage as many people as they can to Go Green with their Spring Clean for 2022.

Plastic containers and the chemicals in cleaning products have been a hot topic in recent years. A study by The American Thoracic Society’s Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, concluded that ‘…in the long run cleaning chemicals very likely cause rather substantial damage to your lungs.’

Rebecca says “As well as the plastic pollution from single use containers, there are also chemicals found in some household cleaning and washing products that could be harmful to the environment and our health. So, we are on a mission to show people just how easy it can be to swap to nontoxic, plant based, natural cleaning products in refillable containers.”

To make it as simple as possible to make the switch, Bovey Larder have put together a range of spring clean starter kits, with a 20% saving, to suit all needs and budgets. Everything you’ll need to keep your home spick and span, naturally!

Corin says, “We understand that it can be daunting to change the way that you shop, which is why in our friendly shop we are trying to make it as easy as possible with our spring clean starter kits. We’re not perfect, and we don’t expect our customers to be, but if everyone does a little it can go such a long way to helping the planet for us and future generations.”

If you are still not convinced, here’s 6 reasons to Go Green with your Spring Clean.

  1. YOUR HEALTH, using natural, plant-based ingredients in your cleaning products can be better for your health. The harsh chemicals in some household products could affect breathing, skin, headaches, hormones, nervous and immune systems too. Environmentally kinder cleaning products such as Minml and Elm-Kind have only natural ingredients and so could be less likely to cause reactions.
  2. SAVE MONEY AND SPACE. It doesn’t have to cost the earth, in any sense, to go green with your clean. Often the simpler, more natural and refillable, re-useable alternatives can work out cheaper as you are not paying for all that packaging. You also often get a longer life from a product, with some being more highly concentrated and having replaceable parts. With a single product offering multiple uses, you can save space under your sink too.
  3. SAFER FOR BABIES, CHILDREN AND ANIMALS. Some chemicals in cleaning products may not be safe for babies, children and animals, swapping to a more natural option could be a safer alternative and give you peace of mind.
  4. KINDER TO THE PLANET, reducing single use plastic by recycling, re-using and refilling bottles and containers. It’s estimated that refilling a bottle creates up to 70% less CO2 emissions, uses up to 60% less energy and 45% less water than buying a new bottle. If every household in the UK refilled just one bottle every month, that could re-use around 336 million plastic bottles every year!
  5. REDUCES FOOD CHAIN CONTAMINATION. Natural ingredients biodegrade quickly and are thought less likely to disrupt aquatic life. Refilling and re-using bottles and containers can also reduce the amount of plastic polluting our oceans too.
  6. CRUELTY FREE AND VEGAN, so kind to animals as well as the planet.

Enjoy 20% off all starter kits.
