Salcombe Brewery Co

Salcombe Brewery produces a range of beers, all handcrafted from the Brewhouse nestled in the Devon hills. Beers include the popular Seahorse, Salcombe Gold and Salcombe Pale, all available to buy in-store as polypins or bottles. The brewery welcomes visitors for brewery tours, brew days and to pop into the shop for a range of beers & merchandise.

Brewery tours typically happen on Thursday’s, weekly during the high season and monthly during the Winter. Tours include a tour of the Brewhouse, meet the brewers, ask any of your beery questions and of course sample the beers in the Brewery’s taproom. Tickets cost £10 pp and can be purchased online or in-store. For the full experience, book a brew day. This is a full day in the Brewhouse with the brewers, making your own Salcombe beer. The day includes lunch, sampling and the opportunity to take home your beer (not straight away!) or some other Salcombe beer that day. Tickets are £80 pp available online or in-store.

The Brewery Shop is open Monday to Saturday 10.00 – 16.00 (Saturday’s operate seasonally 10-2pm during the winter). For the latest opening times check online. The Shop is stocked full of beer & merchandise. Beers are available in bottles or polypins.

The Brewhouse has fantastic views of the Devon countryside towards the Salcombe / Kingsbridge estuary. It is in a unique position, situated above a decommissioned water reservoir which naturally provides the perfect ambient temperature for storing ales and means a borehole is on site which is capable of producing water for the whole brewery. Working together with local farmers, we ensure that wastage is kept to a minimum and strive towards achieving environmental sustainability. Local surroundings are key to Salcombe Brewery. The seahorse logo used throughout the beers & merchandise is reflective of the fact that the Salcombe estuary is home to two of the rare British species of seahorse – the spiny and the short-snouted. The brewery has partnered up with The Seahorse Trust to help protect these amazing animals for the future, by donating 5p of every bottle of Seahorse sold to the efforts of the Trust. During 2019, we have also joined forces with the RNLI by donating 5p a pint of Lifesaver towards this incredible charity and in celebration of 150 years in service of the Salcombe RNLI. Living and working by the water, we understand how important the work the RNLI carries out is, so let’s continue supporting them saving lives at sea.

Below is a list of some Salcombe beer favourites available throughout the region in pubs & bars and shops & delis.

Devon Amber 3.8% - An amber coloured classic best bitter from Devon. This easy drinking malt driven bitter has a dry, yet sweet aftertaste backed up by the traditional British hop aromas.

Shingle Bay 4.2% - This delightfully easy drinking golden ale has a pleasant fruity aroma and a subtle crisp bite. The use of the pacific gem hop, adds a complexity to the aroma with notes of blackberry and spiced fruit.

Salcombe Gold 4.2% - A light harvest gold ale with a long hoppy finish. Using some of the best hops the USA has to offer in Citra, Amarillo and Chinook. These hops result in a citrus driven aroma and flavour supported by hints of melon, apricot and peach.

Seahorse 4.4% - This sweet and smooth amber ale has a gentle spicy hop character with hints of burnt toffee, caramel and a Smoked malty finish.

Lifesaver 4.8% - This tasty bronze coloured ale has a pleasantly malty flavour with a smack of citrus and orange peel. The initial citrus flavour gently fades into a subtle liquorice and toffee character with a floral finish. Don’t forget 5p a pint of Lifesaver goes to the RNLI.

Salcombe Pale Ale 4.6% - A classic pale ale with a twist that has its heritage embedded in the Salcombe citrus fruit trade. Using ingredients that could have been found in Salcombe in the 19th century, we have produced a full bodied pale ale with a bouquet of orange, pink grapefruit and anise. This dry hopped pale ale boasts a robust structure and complex flavour.

Island Street Porter 5.9% - Inspired by Salcombe’s Island Street’s boat builders, this is a hand crafted, rich, velvety porter. A blend of eight malts produce hints of dark chocolate, coffee and black cherry which combine
