We are proud to announce Broadsands has undergone phase 1 of an extensive and ambitious renovation project to get it beach ready in time for the summer season.

The design draws on a natural beach theme, extensively using timber, planting and careful use of glass to help break up the existing monolithic design, this allows the building to blend effortlessly with the beautiful landscape. The build consciously used materials known for their low impact and long-lasting nature, such as home-grown larch. We will be installing bat and bird boxes as well as hedgehog houses as part of our ongoing biodiversity conservation ethos, to help preserve the wealth of habitats and ecosystems in Devon and beyond.

Broadsands located on the seafront in the English Riviera is at the heart of the SW Coast path, between Paignton & Brixham and its location makes it perfect for scenic coastal walks. Our Café offers all-day, award-winning al-fresco dining serving the best, locally-sourced ingredients to create mouth-watering handmade recipes lovingly prepared in our own Venus kitchens.

SAFE BEACHES
Broadsands is one of the best swimming beaches on this coast. A beautiful long sandy beach set in an idyllic rural setting with a gentle shelving gradient makes it perfect for all ages and agility. The calm and crystal-clear water is popular for family days out and at low tide you can explore rock pools. The car park leads straight onto the long-level promenade with access to the beach. Note: there are no lifeguards at Broadsands.

Take a seat: following our new renovation project, you will be spoilt for choice as to where to sit to enjoy the Venus eating experience, whether it’s our ever-popular cosy café, with its new entrance triple-glazed external doors and triple layers of insulation in the walls, or our newly remodelled expansive outdoor area, where you can unwind on our stunning decking which seats c.100. Beautifully designed with a Mediterranean beach-style feel, here you can soak up the rays and unwind as you gaze at spectacular views of the Bay and enjoy amazing food dished up with a warm welcome from our friendly team.
We serve a tasty and nourishing all-day menu so why not kick-start your day with our new Breakfast Burrito (all-day breakfast of egg, bacon, hash brown, and sriracha sauce served in a hot wrap), or a moreish bacon bap with a generous serving of three rashers of English dry-cured back-bacon.
Ever popular are our amazing daily wraps bursting with flavour; perfect for sunny days, including a free-range English Chicken Caesar with Venus’s homemade dressing. Prawn Marie rose sauce with plump king prawns is always a favourite. New for the 2023 season is an authentic Asian-style ‘Bang Bang’ chicken wrap; and make sure you try the delicious Venus falafel and hummus wrap, packed full of flavour.
A variety of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options are also available, including our delicious vegan sausage and tomato bap, and we now also have a gluten-free sausage and tomato sandwich! Making a welcome return for summer is our ever-popular eggs Benedict and Vegedict - poached eggs on Venus thick sliced sourdough topped with Maille hollandaise sauce, with or without bacon.
Enjoy our flavoursome Venus-style ‘fish n chips’ washed down with a pint of local Torbay-based Bays beer, or great wines (in a sustainable can), which complement our dishes making it a memorable day out on the beach.
For a meatier option try our famous Venus pasty bursting with juicy local steak and crammed full of mouth-watering vegetables, or our local organic Devon beef burger made to our own secret recipe making delicious Classic and Bacon Cheese beefburgers.

Not forgetting our younger clientele, we are very child-friendly and offer a great menu for the younger palette including the ever-popular Venus Kids’ Fish and Fries and Sausage and Fries.

A SWEET TOOTH?
There’s a delightful range of Venus homemade cakes and treats. We also have a selection of hot and cold drinks including bean coffee (decaf also available). For the die-hard tea drinkers, we will donate 5p to RSPB and other worthy causes for every cup of Venus tea purchased. And a day out on the beach is never complete without a cooling ice cream or ice lolly treat. We have an extensive range and variety available to choose from including all the old favourites as well as new flavours. Brand new to Venus and the UK is the delicious plant-based soft Ice cream from Jude’s ice cream which is extra creamy and smooth!

We're a proud environmental champion striving to provide tasty wholesome food delivered with an ethical and sustainable approach and philosophy. We also always endeavour to take care of and maintain the environmental balance of all our beach cafes. Our mission is to be the greenest café starting with banning plastic straws from all of our beach cafes more than 20 years ago. Most packaging is now 100% single plastic free and all hot cup drinks & lids are 100% home-compostable to protect the environment and the oceans.

DOG FRIENDLY
We’re excited to launch our new canine menu developed for our much-loved four-legged customers. The range of appetising dog products offers a main course of three healthy chews from The Canine Menu Ltd. Fully digestible, sustainable, and naturally made from by-products of the meat industry, they are Individually wrapped in fully recyclable packaging, ensuring no single-use plastic. Serve up with Jude’s Dog ice cream as a lick-smacking dessert for your pooch and they’ll be in doggy heaven. Packed with health benefits, it’s a real treat and the great news is that 5% of the sales go to Battersea Dogs & Cats Home!

Dogs on leads can be exercised on the grass all year round, although not permitted on the beach during the May to September season.
