An historic Dartmouth restaurant and boutique hotel has been recognised for its culinary excellence after winning its first  AA rosette.

Bayards Cove Inn received the coveted award, as well as four Gold stars for its accommodation and a Breakfast Award, following an overnight stay by AA inspector James Hartley.

The awards, established by the breakdown cover company, are recognised as a benchmark in quality. Rosettes are a clear indicator of culinary excellence and reflect the experience diners can expect from the moment they enter the venue.

Restaurants with one Rosette are achieving standards that stand out in their local area. To receive one is a huge achievement. Four stars for accommodation mean guests will receive an attentive, personalised service, with very good beds and high quality furniture. A Breakfast Award indicates a very special breakfast using fresh, local ingredients.

Mr Hartley remarked: “There is so much to commend at Bayards Cove Inn, not least of which being the whole hearted commitment of the team, such an engaging approach which contributes to a relaxed and rewarding guest experience.”

Head chef Bogdan Nicoriciu, known as Danny, joined Bayards Cove Inn six years ago, bringing  with him a flair for using the freshest ingredients, raised, grazed or grown locally or fished from the Devon coastline to create the most sumptuous dishes.

He said: “I am so proud to receive this award. It sets Bayards Cove Inn apart and really underpins everything we stand for, which is to create menus with exceptional, locally sourced food that’s served by a knowledgeable and engaging team, so that everyone who visits has a wonderful and memorable time.”

General manager Hannah Veale added: “The inspector’s report was incredible to read with several members of our team singled out for their brilliant customer care. To receive four stars is excellent and it rubber stamps the experience people can expect to have when they stay at Bayards Cove Inn.”

Head housekeeper Gemma Caple said: “I’m over the moon for all the team here. It’s great to be recognised. At the heart of what we do is wanting to give every single one of our guests a wonderful experience at Bayards Cove Inn.”

Bayards Cove Inn is owned by husband and wife team Charlie and Zuzana Deuchar who also own Bayards Kitchen at Dartington.

They said: “We were so proud of all the team, with Danny an exceptional chef, working very closely with his brilliant sous chefs and Hannah leading the front of house team. It’s an incredible achievement and represents everything we stand for at Bayards Cove Inn, which is to provide exceptional food, and brilliant stay in luxurious accommodation, with our knowledgeable, warm and friendly staff at the forefront of everything we do.”
