Bar Buoy Cocktails is among the Great Taste Winners of 2021

Great Taste, the world’s most trusted food and drink awards, has announced its stars of 2021 and Exmouth based Bar Buoy Cocktails is up there with the best. Out of 14,113 products sent in from around the world, Bar Buoy Cocktails has been awarded a 3-star Great Taste award for its bottled Margarita, which means the product was described by judges as “extraordinarily tasty”.

The judges commented: “For a pre-made cocktail it’s remarkable – you’d struggle to make this as well at home. It tastes like what we’ve all been missing lately – a decent bartender-mixed cocktail. Well done” and “A really well-crafted cocktail, with all the expected flavours exceptionally wellbalanced.”

In addition to being awarded three stars for the Margarita, Bar Buoy’s Bramble was also awarded 1-star.

Judged by some of the most discerning palates, belonging to food critics, chefs, cooks, restauranteurs, buyers, retailers and producers, as well as food writers and journalists, Great Taste is the most trusted of all food and drink awards. As well as a badge of honour, the unmistakable black and gold Great Taste label is a signpost to an outstanding product, which has been discovered through hours and hours of blind tasting.

Bar Buoy Co founder Tim Ball (the bar boy) explains: “The Great Taste Awards are like the Oscars of the food and drink industry. To win not just one, but three stars in our first year is a fabulous achievement and I’m so proud to be able to put this industry stamp on my personal favourite product within our range. We are only just at the beginning of our journey and I’m blown away about the future and the opportunities that lie ahead.”

Bar Buoy began when the word pressed pause in 2020 and husband and wife team Tim and Ria Ball dreamt up the business whilst sitting on the beach in Devon. The Margarita was the first drink to be created and stemmed back to earlier that year when Tim perfected his own recipe.

Ria comments: “On 1st January 2020 Tim’s new years resolution was to make the perfect Margarita . Little did we know that three months later the world would be in lockdown and Tim’s global events business would be stopped in its tracks for over a year. So with a bit more time on his hands Tim set about perfecting his recipe. We then combined his event bar experience (think Olympics!) with my marketing background and within another three months we’d launched our new business. The feedback we’ve received from national press, repeat customers and now award judges has been really encouraging and it’s wonderful to see that our high quality products are beginning to speak for themselves.”
