Park Life Heavitree is a grassroots community organisation started by local residents to serve the community. Having run a small coffee van in the park for many years in 2021 we completed the Park LIfe Cafe and Hub building in Heavitree Pleasure Ground, Exeter. We felt that Park Cafe had to reflect this bottom up approach through the food by supporting local suppliers where possible, choosing producers who offer ‘real food’ that’s produced ethically and has as few unnecessary ingredients as possible. Some examples of this include:

Our meat is free range and produced locally through Burrow Farm – who farm on Killerton Estate. This was an ethical choice, as a community resource it was important to put ethics first by ensuring welfare standards are high, as is the quality of meat. We work with Sidwell St Bakery who are a community organisation and produce some of our tray bakes, sourdough bread and pitta breads that we offer. They are an artisan bakery who make all of their products in-house on Sidwell St, and offer volunteering, training and many supportive initiatives to their local community. Our cakes come from Cocorico and are made less than 1 mile from our cafe in Heavitree, Exeter. We are proud to make our own jams, pickles and fermented chilli sauce in-house.

We aim to develop the menu as we go to keep it fresh and respond to how we can best serve our customers and community.
The menu was designed by Alex, our Cafe Manager, to reflect his ideas about how food should be prepared and delivered. He wants it to be as homemade as possible. A lot of thought goes into the menu to make as many items from scratch. Alex and his kitchen team love cooking and big flavours so hopefully that comes across within the menu items.
