What We Do -

Here at Tambapanni we are constantly striving to bring you the most healthy, nutritious and tasty Sri Lankan food available in the UK.

We are a mobile food truck based in North Devon with regular weekend pitches in Braunton, Barnstaple & Georgeham. In addition to out regular pitches we can be found at various events throughout Devon as well as many music festivals throughout the UK. We also cater for private events, parties and weddings.

All of our food is prepared and cooked by our chef Dinesh. Dinesh was born and lived most of his life in Sri Lanka where he learnt his cooking skills from his mother. He worked as a chef for much of his life in Sri Lanka and since moving to the UK in 2013 where he then worked in various 4* hotels within North Devon until 2017 when we begin Tambapanni. He doesn’t follow recipes but instead is guided by intrinsic knowledge and intuition to create his own blend of spice mixes to use in our unique dishes.

We are committed to bringing you the truest flavours and do so by only using freshly ground high grade Sri Lankan spices and the freshest vegetables. We also use the highest quality fresh chicken available and all of the fish/seafood in our dishes is 100% sustainably sourced, using local catches where available.

Sustainability -

We are constantly striving to be more sustainable. This year we are driving that mission forward by fulfilling another dream of ours by growing our own crops to use in our dishes. This is a huge task but one that we feel is unique (especially for a food truck) and incredibly important on our path to reducing our carbon footprint and increasing our long term sustainability. Not only that but we believe this is the way forward to bring the absolute freshest and most natural ingredients to our menus. We certainly have a lot to learn! Following the principles of bio-dynamic farming is no mean feat and is something that will take several years of commitment to master but we hope this will give us a great platform where we can encourage others to think more locally and responsibly in terms of where food is sourced.

We recently rescued several chickens which are now living a free range, organic fed life! These lovely girls have already begun providing us with vibrant delicious eggs for our egg based dishes and short eats. We have begun composting their waste to use as fertiliser.

We also have a well established wormery which provides us with super rich fertiliser for use on our veg beds.

This year we won the ARON (Asian Restaurant Owners Network) ‘WOW’ Award which acknowledges our ongoing inspiring efforts towards sustainability within Asian hospitality in the UK.

Green Cleaning -

We only ever use all natural, eco cleaning products. We incorporate green cleaning products combined with regular deep cleans using a steam cleaner. We feel confident this is the best way to keep our food truck sanitised and avoid any cross contamination of nasty chemicals into our food.

Recycling -

We always request our produce to be delivered without plastic bags & boxes.

We provide our butcher with suitable containers to deliver our meat in, thereby eliminating the need for plastic packaging.

We compost all of our food prep waste, which in turn is then used on our own veg beds.

Our cooking oil (rapeseed) is collected by our supplier and recycled in their local purpose built plant and turned into biofuel.

Plastic Free -

We use compostable/biodegradable packaging - take away containers, plates, wooden forks & spoons.

The drinks we sell are locally Devon made in recyclable bottles. We also offer free water bottle refills.

We are proudly certified ‘Plastic Free’ by Plastic Free North Devon in association with Surfers Against Sewage.

The Future -

We very much hope one day in the near future to be able to install solar panels on our food truck to reduce our need for a petrol generator.

We would love to invest in an electric vehicle for towing our food truck. At present there isn’t one available capable of towing much more than 1tonne of weight, so we wait keenly for technology to advance.

SATURDAYS - We alternate between - BARNSTAPLE, ROUNDSWELL (Old Bideford Road behind Sainsbury’s) / GEORGEHAM, DAVIDS HILLS BUS STOP 5:30-8pm

Over the summer period (July 10th - Sept 2nd) we can be found every night (apart from Monday) at the wonderful Cherry Tree Farm Camping in Croyde, North Devon.
