Teignmouth Farmers’ Market – Cultivating the Next Generation
It has been said of farmers that they should manage their farm for the next generation. On Saturday, 28 August, the Teignmouth Farmers’ market will see the next generation of farmers taking their first steps into the market. Look out for younger members of the farming clans making and selling their own products. It is a complete learning experience to set up and decorate their stall, price their wares, and learn to make change.
Finn, aged 10 and brother Joe, aged 13, sons of the “stall-worts” Brian and Nel Stanbury, of Stanbury Game, are taking this opportunity to the next level. They are busy baking cakes to raise funds for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. Both boys are avid surfers and make a point to only surf at safe beaches with lifeguards. All monies raised will be going to the RNLI and the boys have secured the endorsement of the Teignmouth branch.
Look out for cheese straws from the third generation of cheese makers at Curworthy Cheese and sweet treats from Shute Fruit and Produce.
Although most regular stallholders now take contactless payments, please bring some ready cash to support the farmers of tomorrow. Look for their stalls next to mum and dad in The Triangle between 10 and 2 pm.
